SARAH E SHIVELY | PAPER PLATE PROJECT

The Paper Plate Poetry Project is a collection of poems written on paper plates. The Project started in 1998 as an in-class exercise intended to make writing poetry an instant and fun activity for women in the As Soon as I Find My Voice course at The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC. The project has since grown to include the writing of audience members, young students, renowned poets and international participants writing in English and their languages of origin. Hundreds of paper plate poems have been written and collected as a part of this project.

You are invited to participate: Simply by writing a poem on a paper plate, you are instantly and officially apart of the project. If you would like your poem included in the collection, you can mail me your paper plate. Coming soon to the site: the ‘virtual paper plate’ that will allow you to write your poems on-line, and they will be automatically added to the collection.
